MSCI Retains South Korea Under Emerging Market Status
U.S.-based Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) maintained South Korea's emerging market status in its latest review released Tuesday, saying the limited convertibility of the Korean won offshore was a key barrier to the economy's reclassification to developed market status.The MSCI also cited the country's operational hurdles around the adoption of omnibus accounts and in-kind transfers and ongoing market-access restrictions as reasons for the decision, according to the release.
