Terna Reports Stronger H1 Performance, Accelerates Grid Investments

Terna reported H1 2026 earnings Wednesday, showing improved revenue, operating profit and earnings from a year earlier as it continued to accelerate investments supporting Italy's energy transition.The company increased H1 capital expenditure to 1.581 billion euros ($1.80 billion) for the half ended June 30, compared with 1.32 billion euros a year earlier.Second quarter investment rose to more than 1 billion euros from 757.2 million euros in the same quarter last year, Terna said.Terna continued work on the Tyrrhenian Link, completing the East Link's pole 2 marine cable between Campania and Sicily while advancing converter stations in Eboli and Termini Imerese.The company launched public consultation for the Adriatic Backbone, a roughly 600-kilometer direct current connection with about 540 kilometers of submarine cable linking Puglia and Emilia-Romagna.Terna advanced the Elmed interconnection by awarding a contract worth about 770 million euros for converter stations linking Italy and Tunisia, while beginning engineering work and onshore surveys.Terna started marine surveys for the Milan-Montalto direct current connection, a key step in designing the roughly 500-kilometer power link, including 280 kilometers of submarine cable, with a transmission capacity of 2,100 megawatts, the company said.Terna continued work on the Sa.Co.I.3, Chiaramonte Gulfi-Ciminna, Cassano-Chiari and Colunga-Calenzano projects, with the latter two power lines expected to enter service before year-end, the company said.Authorities also approved 16 National Transmission Grid development projects worth about 273 million euros during the first half, the company said.

Entergy Q2 Retail Power Sales Rise, Wholesale Sales Fall

US electric utility Entergy (ETR) reported Wednesday that Q2 2026 electricity sales rose by 1.4% to 37,063 gigawatt-hours from 35,534 in Q2 2025, with wholesale sales declining sharply while retail sales increased on stronger industrial demand.Wholesale electricity sales fell 19.2% to 3,338 GWh in the quarter ended June 30, from 4,133 GWh a year earlier.Retail electricity sales rose 4.1% to 33,725 GWh from 32,401 GWh in the year-ago quarter. Industrial sales increased 9.9% to 17,164 GWh from 15,620 GWh, offsetting declines in residential and commercial demand. Residential sales fell 1.8% to 8,736 GWh from 8,899 GWh, while commercial sales slipped 0.8% to 7,208 GWh from 7,265 GWh. Sales to government customers were unchanged at 617 GWh.Entergy said weather-adjusted retail sales increased 5.7% during the quarter, driven primarily by a 9.9% increase in industrial sales volumes reflecting higher demand from data center, primary metals and chlor-alkali customers. Weather-adjusted residential sales rose 2.8%.On a year-to-date basis, the utility's retail customer count increased 1.1% to 2,637,685 from 2,608,472 a year earlier. Update: Weekly US Crude Inventories Drop by 7.2 Million Barrels, EIA Says

(Updated to include additional details.)US commercial crude oil inventories decreased by 7.2 million barrels to 404.5 mmbbls in the week ended July 24, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report on Wednesday.Crude inventories were about 7% below the five-year average for this time of year, the EIA said.The decrease was above Macquarie's estimate of a 2.5-mmbbl draw for the week ended July 24.US Strategic Petroleum Reserve inventories dropped to 307.7 mmbbls in the week ended July 24, down from 311.4 mmbbls a week earlier, marking a weekly decline of 3.8 mmbbls, EIA data showed.Crude oil input to refineries increased by 271,000 barrels per day from the previous week to average about 17.3 million b/d in the week ended July 24. Crude oil production dropped by 2,000 b/d to 13.8 million b/d. Commercial crude imports decreased by 124,000 b/d to average about 5.7 million b/d.Total motor gasoline stockpiles remained unchanged from the previous week to 211.3 mmbbls, while distillate stocks increased slightly by 1.1 mmbbls to 110.6 mmbbls, the agency said.
