Policymakers at the Bank of Canada have made clear that higher energy prices alone are unlikely to trigger action, unless oil prices remain elevated for a prolonged period and inflationary pressures broaden out, said Desjardins.Yet Canadian fixed income continues to trade closely with oil prices, suggesting that markets still attach meaningful weight to the single inflation mandate and terms-of-trade benefits, noted the bank.As a consequence, the risk of hikes later this year cannot be ruled out, but it remains "conditional," stated Desjardins. Canada may be best placed to absorb the shock, but its bond market is still trading as though oil is a cleaner macro positive than the BoC itself appears to believe.The bank's forecast continues to see the BoC on hold this year, which should bring mortgage rates down later in 2026.

Coursera Completes Combination With Udemy

Constellation Energy Reports Fall in Q1 Nuclear Output

Constellation Energy (CEG) on Monday reported Q1 production of 44.67 terrawatt-hours by its nuclear fleet, down from 45.58 TWh in the corresponding quarter last year.The production includes the company's owned output from the Salem and South Texas Project generating stations, the company said in its Q1 earnings statement.The Maryland-based energy company said its nuclear plants, excluding Salem and STP, reported a 92.3% capacity factor in Q1, versus 94.1% in the year-ago period."There were 99 planned refueling outage days in the first quarter of 2026 and 88 in the first quarter of 2025 for sites we operate. There were no non-refueling outage days in the first quarter of 2026 and 2025 for sites we operate," the company added.Earlier in January, the company completed the acquisition of Texas-based power producer Calpine from Energy Capital Partners in a deal valued at about $16.4 billion.Last month, its 460 megawatt Pin Oak Creek Energy Center natural gas-fired peaking power plant in Freestone County, Texas commenced commercial operations. The 105 MW Pastoria solar project in California's Kern County was also commissioned in April.In Q1, the company reported an equivalent forced outage factor for its natural gas, oil, and pumped-storage hydro fleet at 4.5%. Iren Posts Lower Electricity Output in Q1

Italian utility Iren on Monday reported a 4% decline over the year in electricity output to 2.794 terawatt-hours, due to lower production from cogeneration plants and renewable sources.Electricity output from cogeneration facilities was down 3.7% from a year earlier at 1.842 TWh.Production from renewable sources slipped 28.3% to 240 gigawatt-hours, despite a 12% growth in capacity. About 243 megawatts were added from the commissioning of the Noto photovoltaic plant and a small plant in Bologna.Thermoelectric generation, on the other hand, was up 7.3% to 713 GWh.The utility said it also produced 1.279 terawatt-hours of thermal energy during the period, a 5.6% increase from year-ago levels, driven by a more favorable thermal season.The energy segment posted a 24.4% year-over-year decline in Q1 revenue to 710 million euros ($836.46 million).Meanwhile, the company's directly marketed electricity totaled 1.747 TWh during the period, down 21.5% from the previous year, largely due to lower demand from the retail and wholesale sectors.The market business unit recorded a 14.3% drop in revenue to 1.15 billion euros.In Q1, Iren distributed 969 GWh of electricity and 497 million cubic meters of gas.
