The Philippines may issue new Retail Treasury Bonds as soon as next month as the government seeks to broaden its pool of individual debt investors, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the plan.
The issuance, which would mark 25 years since the government first tapped small-denomination debt, will depend on market conditions, the people said. Finance Secretary Frederick Go said the government plans to sell retail bonds "very soon" but provided no details, according to the report.
The latest retail bond sale in August raised 507.2 billion pesos, while retail and benchmark bonds account for more than a third of outstanding government securities, Bloomberg said.
The Finance department did not immediately respond to' request for a comment.
