Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CP.TO, CP) and Canadian National Railway Company (CNR.TO, CNI) reported on Thursday record monthly transportation volumes of grain and grain product movement in August.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City moved 2.54 million metric tonnes (MMT) and 26,051 carloads of Canadian grain and grain products in August, said the company.
This surpassed the company's previous tonnage and carload records for the month set in August 2020 and covers the first four weeks of the 2026-2027 crop year that began Aug. 1, 2026, said the company.
The company said the railway also set a combined monthly tonnage record, across its US and Canada network, for grain movements in August, moving 4.86 MMT and 50,396 carloads, it added.
Canadian National Railway Company moved 2.50 million metric tonnes (MMT) of grain from Western Canada in August, beating the previous record of 2.34 MMT set in August 2020, it said.
CPKC shares were last seen up CA$0.08 at CA$124.10, while CN shares were last seen down CA$0.28 at CA$167.93, on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
