Denmark's Largest Offshore Wind Farm Half Completed, Finished by Spring 2027
German energy giant RWE has installed half of the 72 turbines planned for its 1.1-gigawatt Thor offshore wind farm in Denmark, keeping the country's largest offshore wind project on track for full commissioning in spring 2027, it said on Friday.Each of the turbines will stand 148 meters above sea level, with 115 meter rotor blades and a capacity of up to 15 megawatts, its statement said.RWE also said Thor will become the first offshore wind farm globally to deploy 36 turbine towers manufactured using carbon-reduced steel from Siemens Gamesa.In addition, 40 turbines will be equipped with recyclable rotor blades, which the company said marks another step toward improving the lifecycle sustainability of offshore wind projects."With every turbine we install, we move closer to delivering Denmark's largest offshore wind farm," said Tobias Keitel, the CTO of RWE Offshore Wind, while adding that once the project was fully operational, it would generate enough green electricity to power over 1 million Danish households.The project is jointly owned by RWE, which holds a 51% stake, and is responsible for the construction and long-term management, along with Norway's Norges Bank Investment Management, which owns the remaining 49%.
