Centrica H1 Nuclear Output Down YOY; Trading Portfolio Expands
Energy services and solutions company Centrica said Thursday its power segment generated lower nuclear output in H1 due to outages, while its trading arm expanded its portfolio of renewable and flexible capacity under management.Nuclear generation totaled 3.2 terawatt-hours in six months ended June 30, an 11% decline from 3.6 TWh produced in the year-ago period, due to longer planned and unplanned outages.In the long term, Centrica highlighted that nuclear output will be supported by life extensions at Sizewell B, Heysham 1, and Hartlepool power stations.In Ireland, the company said its 445-megawatt Whitegate combined cycle gas turbine plant produced 1.2 TWh of electricity, a 20% jump from the prior year's 1.0 TWh, as the asset sustained 99% availability throughout the period.Meanwhile, production from the Spirit Energy joint venture declined year over year by 57% to 2.9 million barrels of oil equivalent in H2, following the disposal of 46.25% of Spirit's interest in the Cygnus gas field in October 2025 and outages at Morecambe field, according to the report.Centrica said the remaining volume in rough reservoir stood at 11 billion cubic feet in H1, 31% lower than the previous year's 16 bcf.During the period, the renewable energy trading and optimization unit expanded its renewable and flexible capacity under management by 13% year over year to 18.9 gigawatts."This growth reflects continued investment in skills and technology, enabling partners to access ancillary services markets that would otherwise be unavailable to them," the company said.Across the retail segment, the total number of customers dropped 1% to about 10.3 million, although Centrica highlighted a "strong" retention rate of 91% for home energy supply customers and 87% for home services customers.
