Research Alert: Fhn: Q1 Earnings Beat As Credit Quality Remains Pristine

Analysts at CFRA have summarized their opinion as follows:FHN posted solid Q1 2026 results with operating EPS of $0.53 vs. $0.52 prior quarter, $0.03 above consensus. The bank demonstrated strong operational leverage with return on tangible common equity reaching 15.1% for the third consecutive quarter, above management's 15% target. Credit quality remained a bright spot as net charge-offs fell 1-bp to 0.18%, well below peers, while nonperforming loans held steady at 0.94%. Net interest income contracted 1%, primarily due to day count differences, but net interest margin expanded 1-bp to 3.52% as interest-bearing deposit costs declined 25 bps to 2.28%. Period-end loan balances increased $221M to $64.4B, with positive composition shifts toward higher-yielding C&I lending. The bank aggressively repurchased $233M in shares, contributing to a 10-bp decline in the CET1 ratio to 10.5%. FHN reduced its near-term CET1 target to 10.5% from 10.5%-10.75%, a reasonable change given the improved operating environment, in our view.

Analysts at CFRA have summarized their opinion as follows:BAC posted an earnings beat of $1.11 vs. the $1.01 consensus and $0.91 a year ago, with revenue up 7.2% Y/Y to $30.3B due to 9.0% NII growth and non-interest income gains. Consumer banking revenue was up 5.0%, with consumer average loans and leases at $322B, up 2% from a year ago. Global Markets was a standout with 8% revenue growth to $7.1B, marking the 16th consecutive quarter of Y/Y growth, while Equities reached $2.8B revenue, up 30.0%. BAC returned $9.3B through dividends and share repurchases in Q1. Credit quality metrics remained robust, with the provision for credit losses falling to $1.3B and the net charge-off ratio improving to 0.48% from 0.54%. The CET1 ratio of 11.2% demonstrates a strong capital position above regulatory minimums. We think BAC faces more risk in traditional lending than capital markets, and while the consumer stays resilient, we may see credit card growth slow if job market challenges emerge. We believe geopolitical uncertainties present risks to BAC's 2026 performance outlook.

Hunting Middle East Operations Remain Unaffected by Conflict, Q1 Shows Strong Order Momentum

Precision engineering company Hunting said in its Q1 2026 trading update on Wednesday that its operations and personnel in Dubai and Saudi Arabia remained safe and largely unaffected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.The company said that as of now, it expected minimal impact on its profitability for the year, as a result of the war, while adding that it would ultimately depend on how long the conflict lasts. Mako Mining Books Record Q1 Gold Production

The Canadian government on Tuesday announced to expect a spring fiscal update on April 28 and a gasoline tax cut decision that offers minimal effects, said Scotiabank.The fuel cut will knock about 0.1% off the month-over-month April consumer price index when prorated and probably another 0.1 off May when the full month is affected, noted the bank.Then the cut shakes out from June until September, after which its reversal would add back around two-tenths to October CPI, stated Scotiabank.Key are whether it's just a cut for the Summer driving season, whether margins across refiners and retailers crowd in the space, and whether it gets passed on or absorbed in the profit margins of businesses that use a lot of fuel, pointed out the bank.The Bank of Canada's preferred core measures of inflation-trimmed mean and weighted median CPI exclude the direct effects of changes in taxes and the indirect effects are likely to be "very small," according to Scotiabank.

SRM Contractors Secures Orders Worth INR1.68 Billion

Chemtrade Logistics Renews Normal Course Issuer Bid

Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund (CHE-UN.TO), which lost 18% on Tuesday, announced the early termination of its existing normal course issuer bid which began on Aug. 19, 2025, and had an expiry date of Aug. 18, 2026, and the start of a new NCIB.The company on Wednesday said that the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) accepted its notice of intention to start the NCIB.As of Apr. 10, 2026, under the terminated bid, the fund had bought back for cancellation, near 5.3-million units out of the more than 11.2-million units at a volume weighted average price of $14.55 per unit, for total cash consideration of about $76 million.Due to the early termination and start of the new bid, the 5.3-million units purchased under the terminated NCIB will be deducted from the maximum number of units that may be purchased under the NCIB as per the requirements of the TSX. Under the NCIB, Chemtrade is authorized to buy back up to 11.1-million units, about 10% of the company's public float as of Apr. 10, less the 5.3-million units purchased under the terminated NCIB, for net new purchases of up to 5.8-million units.The NCIB begins on Apr. 17, and will cancel on April 16, 2027, or such earlier date that Chemtrade completes purchases. Chemtrade also entered into an automatic purchase plan with its designated broker to allow for purchases of units during certain pre-determined blackout periods, subject to certain parameters as to price and number of units.Shares of the company closed down $3.26 to $14.50 on Tuesday on the TSX.
