US equity indexes rose on Tuesday as crude oil futures fell after the United Arab Emirates reported fresh Iranian attacks and Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly said combat against Tehran is "over."The Nasdaq Composite was 1% higher at 25,326.13, after touching a record 25,361.05 intraday. The S&P 500 climbed 0.8% to 7,259.22, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.7% to 49,298.25. All sectors rose, with materials and technology leading the gainers.The UAE said it was under attack from Iranian missiles and drones for a second day on Tuesday, according to a report from Reuters. However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday the combat operation launched in February against Iran has ended, CNN reported. US military action during the ceasefire is a "defensive operation," he was cited as saying.At a Pentagon briefing Tuesday, Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Iran's military actions on Monday didn't rise to the level of restarting the war, according to The Wall Street Journal. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, speaking at the same press conference, said the Iran ceasefire deal remains in force and promised to press ahead with opening the Strait of Hormuz, the chokepoint for about a fifth of global crude oil flows.The statements follow Tehran's strikes in the Strait of Hormuz and at Fujairah in the UAE on Monday, fueling concern that the ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran was at risk. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump told congressional leaders that "hostilities" with Iran have "terminated," addressing a critical 60-day deadline under a decades-old law meant to limit the use of military force without authorization from Congress, CBS News reported.West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures dropped 3.9% to $102.27, and Brent crude futures slumped 3.1% to $110.83.US Treasury yields fell, with the 10-year down two basis points to 4.43%, retreating from its highest level in about a month. Topaz Energy (TPZ.TO) after trade Tuesday said its first-quarter revenue and adjusted profit rose slightly year-over-year and approved a quarterly dividend increase.The oil and gas royalty and infrastructure company posted an adjusted profit, excluding most one-time items, of $38.2 million, or $0.25 per share, in the period, up from $38 million, or $0.25, a year ago. FactSet expected earnings per share of $0.32.Revenue rose $94.6 million from $92.2 million in the year-prior quarter. FactSet projected $93 million."Topaz reconfirms the previously announced range of annual average royalty production and processing revenue and other income, however, does expect that annual average royalty production will track at the upper end of the range, driven by strong oil-focused activity while allowing for prudent natural gas-focused capital discipline," the company said.The company added that it expects its 2026 exit net debt to be $407 million, excluding any new acquisitions, and plans to keep its payout ratio toward the low end of its 60% to 90% target range.The board increased the quarterly dividend to $0.35 per share from $0.34 per share. US natural gas prices extended losses in after-hours trade on Tuesday as feedgas volumes to LNG export terminals fell to their lowest level in more than three months, backing up supplies into an already amply supplied market.Both the front-month Henry Hub contract and the continuous contract slipped 3.00% to $2.781 per million British thermal units.BNEF data showed LNG feedgas flows to US Gulf Coast export facilities declined to 17.7 billion cubic feet, the lowest since late January, due to seasonal maintenance production slowdowns at the Cameron, Calcasieu Pass, and Corpus Christi LNG facilities, Aegis Hedging said.US natural gas prices have been under pressure due to a mix of strong supply and weakening shoulder-season demand.On Apr. 17, prices fell to a 1.5-year low amid robust storage levels, highlighting the oversupplied market. As of Apr. 24, inventories stood 7.7% above the five-year seasonal average, reinforcing concerns about excess supply.At the same time, LNG feedgas demand has eased, leaving more gas in the domestic system and adding further downward pressure on prices.Despite this weakness, production remains relatively high. BNEF estimates output at 110.7 Bcf/d, about 3.4% higher than a year earlier, even as lower prices have already led some producers to begin cutting back, according to Trading Economics.Overall, the combination of elevated inventories, strong production, and softer exports continues to weigh on the domestic market.

Intact Financial Q1 Net Income Higher

Intact Financial's (IFC.TO) on Tuesday said its first-quarter profit rose.Net income was up 11% to $752 million, or $4.12 per share, from $676 million, or $3.69, in the prior year period.Operating direct premiums written (DPW) rose 4%, to $5.6 billion. The increase is due to improvements in Commercial and Specialty lines growth, particularly in the UK and Ireland, and continued strength in Personal lines, the company said.Underwriting income, which measures the difference between premiums collected and the claims plus expenses paid, also increased 4% to $504 million, during the quarter.Combined operating ratio was unchanged year over year, at 91.3%.Intact will pay a regular quarterly dividend of $1.47 per share on June 30, to shareholders of record on June 16."Our focus on driving profitable growth through pricing sophistication, product expansion and distribution initiatives in Commercial and Specialty lines is paying off," said chief executive Charles Brindamour. "Our strong balance sheet and capital generation enable us to maintain significant firepower to pursue acquisition opportunities. It also allows us to deploy capital on share buybacks when our shares are meaningfully undervalued. We continue to execute against our financial objectives of exceeding industry ROE by 500 basis points annually and 10% NOIPS growth annually over time."Infact Financial shares closed up $1.02 to $259.10 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
