NWS Warns of Hazardous Heat in Southern Plains, Gulf Coast, Desert Southwest
The US National Weather Service on Friday said it Southern Plains, Gulf Coast and Desert Southwest are likely to experience continued hazardous heat through the weekend, while the Great Basin and Northern Plains regions could face more heat build up during the same period.The region stretching from the Tennessee Valley to the Southeast US is likely to experience periods of heavy to excessive rainfall and flooding due to a stalled front, the agency said.The NWS issued an extreme heat warning early Friday for Arizona's Lake Havasu City, Kingman, Bullhead City, Kingman, Parker, Ajo, Gila Bend, Phoenix, Wickenburg, Dateland, Ajo, Casa Grande, Globe, Tucson, Nogales, Bisbee, Sierra Vista, Benson, Willcox, Safford, San Carlos, Globe, Oracle, Oro Valley, Green Valley, Page, and Grand Canyon Village.The state is primarily served by Pinnacle West Capital (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company, and UNS Energy subsidiaries Unisource and Tucson Electric Power.Sheridan in Wyoming, served by PacifiCorp's Rocky Mountain Power was also placed under an extreme heat warning watch.A similar warning was raised for Nevada's Las Vegas and Beatty, while a red flag warning was issued for Gerlach, Reno, and Carson City. These places are primarily served by Berkshire Hathaway Energy unit NV Energy.In Montana, an extreme heat warning was issued for Havre, Harlem, Fort Benton, Great Falls, Standford, Lewiston, Roundup, Billings, Red Lodge, Malta, Glasgow, Plentywood, Jordan, Circle, Glendive, Terry, Miles City, and Broadus. A red flag warning was raised for Cutbank, Conrad, Choteau, and areas near Stanford, Lewiston and Harlowtown. MDU Resources (MDU) unit Montana-Dakota Utilities and Northwestern Energy (NWE) are the major service providers in the state.An extreme heat warning was issued for California's Blythe, El Centro Imperial, Palm Springs, Twentynine Palms, Indio, Campo, Mount Laguna, Julian, Borrego Springs, Temecula, Hemet, Ontario, Chino, Riverside, Beaumont, an Bernardino, Wrightwood, Victorville, Barstow, Baker, Death Valley, Tehachapi, and Bishop. A red flag was raised for Alturas, Likely, Fort Jones, Macdoel, Canby, Yreka, Tulelake, Weaverville, Mount Shasta, Bieber, Cedarville, and Susanville.PacificCorp's Pacific Power, PG&E (PCG) subsidiary Pacific Gas and Electric, Edison International's (EIX) Southern California Edison, and Sempra Energy unit San Diego Gas & Electric are the major electricity service providers in these places.A red flag warning was also raised for Oregon's Hermiston, Pendleton, The Dalles, Fossil, Maupin, Condon, Prineville, Redmond, Bend, Burns, Ontario, Baker City, Jordan Valley, Chemult, Silver Lake, Crater Lake, Chiloquin, Paisley, Adelview, Klamath Falls and Bly. These places are primarily served by Idaho Corp's (IDA) Idaho Power and Pacific Power.Also covered under a red flag warning watch were Idaho's McCall and Riggins among other places, served by Iado Power.Affected areas in Washington include Wenatchee, Ellensburg, Yakima, Goldendale, Sunnyside, Pasco, Connell, Wallah Wallah, Cheland, Coulee Dam, Winthrop, Omak, Republic and Colville. Pacific Power, Avista (AVA) unit Avista Utilities and Puget Sound Energy are among the primary electricity service providers in the state.The NWS issued a flood warning for George West and Cotulla in Texas, primarily served by American Electric Power's Texas unit.In Kansas, where Evergy (EVRG) is among the primary service providers, a flood warning was raised for Salina, while a flash flood warning was raised for certain areas.A flash flood warning was raised for areas near Camden in South Carolina, while a flood warning was raised for Charlotte and areas near Albemarle in North Carolina. Duke Energy (DUK) is the primary service provider in these places.
