Exxon Mobil (XOM) experienced an operational disruption at its Baytown Complex in Texas on Thursday, triggering unplanned flaring, the company confirmed via a community alert.
While acknowledging the potential disturbance and visual impact on local residents, ExxonMobil confirmed that the situation remains under control and poses no danger to the public.
Unplanned flaring is an emergency response to an unexpected operational upset or equipment failure. The Baytown complex houses a refinery with a capacity of 564,440 barrels per day along with a chemical and an olefins plant.
