Chemicals Companies Likely to Report In-Line Quarterly Results, Deutsche Bank Says

US chemicals companies are likely to report quarterly results in line with expectations, with the Middle East conflict seen as a potential tailwind, Deutsche Bank said Wednesday. The June quarter "largely played out" as expected in terms of demand, pricing and costs, supported by positive pre-announcements by Dow (DOW) and BASF, according to Deutsche Bank.In June, Dow Chief Financial Officer Jeff Tate said the company expected to post second-quarter earnings of about $2.2 billion, "which is above current consensus and roughly 10% above our prior guidance," according to a FactSet transcript. "This is largely driven by continued resilience in polyethylene demand and pricing, as well as margin upside in industrial intermediates and infrastructure."The company is scheduled to report its full second-quarter results Thursday.Earlier this month, German chemicals producer BASF increased its full-year core earnings outlook, citing "better-than-expected business development.""With the macro remaining uncertain, energy prices elevated due to the on-again, off-again Middle East conflict and underlying demand subdued, management teams are likely to remain cautious in their outlooks and guidance," Deutsche Bank analyst David Begleiter said in a note to clients Wednesday. The conflict between the US and Iran and the subsequent shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz -- the world's most important chokepoint for crude flows -- has been a "positive, or at least not a negative" for US chemicals firms and the wider industry of US material, industrial gas, coatings and agricultural companies, Begleiter wrote. The conflict disrupted energy and chemical production and exports from the Persian Gulf, which houses about 15% of global chemical supply, according to Deutsche Bank. The war impacted another 15% of global chemical capacity, while high oil prices increased input costs for chemical producers in Asia, the brokerage said.In the current geopolitical environment, Deutsche Bank has a favorable view on companies such as Celanese (CE), Corteva (CTVA), Ecolab (ECL), Linde (LIN) and PPG Industries (PPG), where investor sentiment is in the wrong position, there are short-term catalysts and organic growth and the companies can maintain prices when raw material costs decline, according to the note.Price: $31.38, Change: $+0.91, Percent Change: +2.99%

Ecolab to Gain From Stronger Volumes, Margins, UBS Says

Ecolab (ECL) could see stronger earnings growth as pricing, higher volumes, cost savings, AI and digital tools, and better margins support results over the next several years, UBS said in a note Tuesday. The investment firm said Ecolab's shift toward faster-growing high-tech markets could lift annual volume growth to about 4%, above its older pace of about 1% to 2%.UBS expects adjusted earnings per share to grow at about a 17% annual rate from 2027 to 2029, helped by stronger sales and higher margins, while high-tech sales, including semiconductor water treatment and data center cooling, could grow to 12% to 14% of total sales and support better margins.Ecolab's broader growth areas, including life sciences, pest control, digital services, and high tech, could rise to about 25% of sales, though UBS said it expects margin growth to slow in 2026 because of raw material costs, but said margins could improve again from 2027 and reach about 24% by 2029.UBS upgraded Ecolab to buy from neutral and raised its price target to $325 from $293.Shares of the company were up about 4.6% in Wednesday trading.Price: $265.63, Change: $+11.40, Percent Change: +4.48%

Ecolab's Commodity Cost Hike Predictions Appear Reasonable, RBC Says

Ecolab's (ECL) forecast for commodity cost increases in Q2 and H2 appears reasonable as the rise in caustic soda, ethylene, and propylene prices amid the Middle East crisis looks manageable, RBC Capital Markets said in a Tuesday research note.Commodity cost inflation is a near-term headwind, which could result in an incremental inflation impact of around 2.5% in 2026, according to the note.Momentum in surcharge implementation should offset cost impacts, supported by moderating propylene prices as well as while stable ethylene prices due to steady natural gas prices, the analysts said.RBC reiterated its outperform rating on Ecolab with a price target of $337.Price: $264.81, Change: $+10.58, Percent Change: +4.16%

Ecolab Seen Gaining From Faster-Growing Businesses, Price Increases, RBC Says

Ecolab (ECL) is positioned for stronger organic momentum and margin improvement as its faster-growing businesses expand, recent price increases take hold, and the company sells more across its existing customer base, RBC Capital Markets said Tuesday in a report after investor meetings with Chief Financial Officer Scott Kirkland.Ecolab expects revenue growth to accelerate to 5% to 7% over the medium term, supported by high-growth areas such as life sciences, global high-tech, pest control and digital solutions, along with contributions from recent acquisitions including CoolIT, the report said.Management expects recent price increases, including temporary energy-related fees and longer-lasting list-price adjustments, to offset higher commodity costs by late Q2 or early Q3, RBC said. That should help Ecolab return to 12% to 15% EPS growth starting in Q3, excluding the CoolIT acquisition, the report said.RBC maintained its outperform rating on Ecolab stock and its price target of $337.Price: $247.99, Change: $+2.26, Percent Change: +0.92%

Research Alert: CFRA Maintains Buy Opinion On Shares Of Ecolab Inc.

CFRA, an independent research provider, has providedwith the following research alert. Analysts at CFRA have summarized their opinion as follows:We cut our target by $21 to $328, 33.7x our 2027 EPS estimate, in line with ECL's three-year average forward P/E. We trim our EPS estimates by $0.16 to $8.47 for 2026 and by $0.10 to $9.74 for 2027. ECL delivered strong Q1 results with accelerating organic growth and margin expansion, supported by its growth engines (Global High-Tech, Life Sciences, Pest, Digital), which collectively grew 12% and now represent 20%+ of sales. The 2026 guidance (+12%-15% adjusted EPS) is maintained despite rising commodity costs given confidence in its pricing power. The pending CoolIT Systems acquisition will create a $1.5B high-tech platform growing 20%-25%+ annually at high margins, positioning ECL as the leading provider of circular water management and direct-to-chip cooling for AI data centers. ECL remains on track to achieve its 20% operating margin target by 2027 (vs. 16.7% in Q1), supported by strong pricing execution, a portfolio mix shift toward higher-margin businesses, and SG&A leverage from digital/AI initiatives.

Research Alert: Ecolab Posts Solid Q1; Accelerated Growth; Near-term Margin Pressure Expected

CFRA, an independent research provider, has providedwith the following research alert. Analysts at CFRA have summarized their opinion as follows:Ecolab reported Q1 sales of $4.1B (+10% Y/Y), $37M above consensus, with organic growth accelerating to +4% from +3% in Q4. Adjusted EPS of $1.70 (+13% Y/Y) met consensus, while operating margin expanded 70 bps to 16.7%, progressing toward the 20% target by 2027. Growth engines (20% of sales) showed strengthening momentum, with Global High-Tech delivering +25% organic growth from AI infrastructure and Life Sciences accelerating to +11% led by bioprocessing demand. Management maintained full-year EPS guidance of $8.43-$8.63 (+12% to +15%) but guided Q2 below estimates due to commodity cost pressures requiring energy surcharges. We view the High-Tech momentum as particularly significant given the multi-year AI data center runway, while the pending CoolIT acquisition reinforces ECL's end-to-end cooling capabilities. We see risk to 2H margin expansion if commodity costs remain elevated or if pricing implementation faces resistance, testing ECL's value proposition and customer relationships.
