Zentek (ZEN.V) on Monday said it filed a provisional patent application in the United States for a water-based electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding coating.
The material, ZEN-EMI-01, is produced from purified graphite from Zentek's Albany deposit, a statement said.
According to Zentek, electronic systems both emit electromagnetic (EM) energy and can be disrupted by it. A phone set down beside a speaker produces a buzz, or a radio loses its signal near power lines. In each case, energy from one device is interfering with another. EMI shielding prevents the interference from occurring.
ZEN-EMI-01 is at laboratory stage.
Zentek shares were unchanged at C$0.84 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
