US Dollar Rises Early Wednesday Ahead of ADP Private Payrolls, Factory Orders, Beige Book

The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Wednesday, except for a decline versus the yen, ahead of the release of ADP private payrolls data for August at 8:15 am ET and factory orders data for July at 10:00 am ET.

Weekly petroleum stocks data are due to be released at 10:30 am ET, followed by the Federal Reserve's Beige Book report at 2:00 pm ET.

Earlier Wednesday, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported that mortgage applications rebounded in the week ended Aug. 28 after a decline in the previous week despite a further increase in average 30-year fixed mortgage rates.

A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Wednesday:

EUR/USD fell to 1.1573 from 1.1588 at the Tuesday US close and 1.1595 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no Eurozone data on Wednesday's schedule. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10.

GBP/USD fell to 1.3484 from 1.3510 at the Tuesday US close and 1.3538 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no UK data on Wednesday's schedule. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17.

USD/JPY fell to 159.8211 from 160.2383 at the Tuesday US close and 160.0631 at the same time Tuesday morning. There were no Japanese data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17-18.

USD/CAD rose to 1.3929 from 1.3898 at the Tuesday US close and 1.3876 at the same time Tuesday morning. The next Bank of Canada meeting is expected to maintain its policy rate when its post-meeting statement is released at 9:45 am ET. There are no Canadian data on Wednesday's schedule.
