The UK's retail prices rose 3% year over year in April, following a 4.1% increase in March, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Wednesday.
The reading is below market expectations of a 3.6% increase.
On a monthly basis, the index was 0.7% higher, against the prior 0.8% gain and the expected 1.4% jump.
