The US National Weather Service said tropical storm conditions are likely in parts of the Gulf Coast stretching from the panhandle of Florida into Louisiana through Wednesday due to the presence of tropical storm Bertha.
The NWS issued a tropical storm warning early Wednesday for Florida's De Funiak Springs, Pensacola and Panama City, primarily served by NextEra Energy (NEE) subsidiary Florida Power & Light.
A similar warning was raised for Alabama's Mobile, which falls under the service area of Southern Company (SO) unit Alabama Power.
Also covered under a tropical storm warning were New Orleans and parts of Houma in Louisiana. An extreme heat warning was issued for the remaining parts of the state, except for parts of Monroe and Shreveport. Entergy's (ETR) Louisiana subsidiaries, Cleco, and American Electric Power (AEP) unit Southwestern Electric Power Company are the major power suppliers in Louisiana.
An extreme heat warning was raised for Mississippi's Vicksburg, Jackson, Brookhaven, Natchez, McComb, Hattiesburg, while Gulfport was covered by a tropical storm warning. Southern Company unit Mississippi Power and Entergy's Mississippi unit are the primary service providers in the state.
The NWS issued an extreme heat warning for the following places in Texas: Gainesville, Bowie, Sherman, Jacksboro, Decatur, Denton, Greenville, Sulphur Springs, Graham, Fort Worth, Dallas, Emory, Granbury, Canton, Waxahachie, Tyler, Athens, Stephensville, Lufkin, Corsicana, Cleburns, Hillsboro, Palestine, Waco, Fairfield, Gatesville, Temple, Centerville, Cameron, Hearne, Bryan, Beaumont, Galveston, Bay City, and Houston. Meanwhile, a flood warning was raised for Cotulla and George West.
CenterPoint Energy (CNP), the Texas units of AEP and Entergy, SWEPCO, and TXNM Energy's (TXNM) TNMP are among the major electricity providers in these places.
In Arizona, a similar warning was raised for Parker, Yuma, Dateland, Gila Bend, Phoenix, Casa Grande, Wickenburg, Lake Havasu City, Kingman, and Bullhead City. The state is primarily served by Pinnacle West Capital (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company, and UNS Energy subsidiaries Unisource and Tucson Electric Power.
Las Vegas and Beatty in Nevada, where Berkshire Hathaway Energy unit NV Energy is the primary service provider, were also covered under the extreme heat warning watch.
Affected areas in California include Blythe, El Centro Imperial, Palm Springs, Twentynine Palms, Death Valley, Baker, Barstow, Palmdale, Campo, Mount Laguna, Julian, Borrego Springs, Indio, Temecula, Ontario, Chino, Riverside, Victorville, Hemet, Beaumont, and Wrightwood. PG&E (PCG) subsidiary Pacific Gas and Electric, Edison International's (EIX) Southern California Edison, and Sempra Energy unit San Diego Gas & Electric are the major electricity service providers in these places.
The NWS issued a red flag warning for Oregon's Lakeview, Adel, Klamath Falls, Ashland, Medford, Shady Cove, Paisley, Silver Lake, Chemult, Crater Lake, Chiloquin, Bly, Burns, Madras, Prineville, Redmond, Cottage Grove, Williamette Pass, and Bend. These places are primarily served by PacifiCorp unit Pacific Power.
A flash flood was raised for Lawrenceburg, Centerville, and places near Clarksville in Tennessee, served by the Tennessee Valley Authority. Similar warnings were also raised for parts of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
Some areas of West Virginia and Ohio were also covered under a flood warning.
