The US National Weather Service on Thursday said portions of Illinois and Indiana are expected to experience severe thunderstorms, with potential for intense tornadoes, damaging gusts, and hail.
Meanwhile, strong winds are likely across coastal Upper Texas and Louisiana, while the region stretching from southern Louisiana into Mississippi is likely to encounter potentially life-threatening flooding due to Tropical Storm Arthur.
The NWS issued a red flag warning warly Thursday for Colorado's Leadville, Buena Vista and Salida. Xcel Energy (XEL) and Black Hills (BKH) unit Black Hills Energy are the primary service providers in the state.
A red flag warning was also raised for Nevada's Reno and Carson City, served by Berkshire Hathaway Energy unit NV Energy; and California's Bridgeport, Markleeville, and areas near Portola, where Algonquin Power & Utilities subsidiary Liberty and Edison International's Southern California Edison are the main service providers.
An extreme heat warning was raised for Grand Canyon Village in Arizona, where Pinnacle West Capital (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company is the primary service provider.
In Texas, an extreme heat warning was issued for Brownsville, Weslaco, McAllen, Raymondville, Rio Grande City, Zapata, Falfurrias, Sarita, Hebbronville, Laredo, Freer, Alice, Corpus Christi, Cotulla, Carrizo Springs, Eagle Pass, Pearsall, Hondo, Uvalde, Karnes City, San Antonio, Victoria, Cuero, Gonzales, New Braulfels, LA Grange, Bastrop, Austin, Georgetown,Marathon, Presidio, Fort Stockton, Big Spring, Midland, San Angelo, and Big Lake. Meanwhile, a flood warning was raised for Corpus Christi, Beaumont, Kountze, Kirbyville, Lufkin, Galveston, and Orange.
The Texas units of American Electric Power (AEP) and Entergy (ETR), Centrepoint Energy (CNP), and Sempra unit (SRE) Oncor are among the major service providers in these places.
A flood warning was raised for Louisiana's Abbeyville, Lafayette, Cameron, Baton Rouge, Jennings, De Quincy, Lake Charles, Oberlin, Glenmora, and Hammond. Houma, New Orleans and Morgan Town were placed under a severe thunderstorm and tornado warning, while areas near New Iberia were covered by a tornado warning.
Entergy's Louisiana unit, American Electric Power's Southwestern Electric Power Company, and Cleco are among the major service providers in Louisiana.
Mississippi's McComb, Hattiesburg, Gulfport, Laurel and Meridian, primarily served by Southern Company (SO) unit Mississippi Power, were also covered under a flood warning watch.
A flood warning was also raised for Mobile in Alabama, primarily served by Southern Company unit Alabama Power; and Pensacoula and De Funiak Springs in Florida, where NextEra Energy (NEE) unit Florida Power & Light Company is the primary service provider.
The NWS issued a flash flood warning for Utah's Cincinnati and Wilmington.
In Indiana, a flash flood warning was raised for Greensburg, and areas near Jasper and Vincennes, while a flood warning was issued for Terre Haute, Indianapolis, Seymour, and Crawfordsville. A tornado warning was issued for Madison and neigbouring areas in Kentucky state. Duke Energy (DUK), the Indiana unit of AES (AES), and CenterPoint Energy are among the major electricity providers in these places.
The NWS also issued flood warnings for parts of Illinois, Washington, Missouri, and Iowa.
