The US National Weather Service on Thursday said it expects continued impact of Tropical Storm Bertha on parts of the northern Gulf Coast stretching from the western Florida Panhandle to southeastern Louisiana through Thursday night.
Dangerous heat is likely to spread from the Gulf Coast to the Southern Plains and Desert Southwest through the end of the week. Meanwhile, extreme heat conditions will moves from the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Plains region by the weekend, the agency said.
The NWS early Thursday issued a tropical storm warning for Louisiana's Cameron, Abbeville, Morgan City, Franklin, New Iberia, Houma, and parts of New Orleans. Entergy's (ETR) Louisiana subsidiaries, Cleco, and American Electric Power (AEP) unit Southwestern Electric Power Company are the major power suppliers in Louisiana.
In Texas, a tropical storm warning was raised for Port Arthur, Galveston, and Beaumont, while a flood warning was raised for George West and Cotulla. CenterPoint Energy (CNP), the Texas units of AEP and Entergy, SWEPCO, and TXNM Energy's (TXNM) TNMP are among the major electricity providers in these the state.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for North Carolina's Rocky Mount, while a flash flood warning was raised for Winston Salem and Greensboro. These places primarily fall under the service area of Duke Energy (DUK). A flash flood warning was also raised for Colorado's Limon.
The NWS issued an extreme heat warning for Arizona's Lake Havasu City, Kingman, Bullhead City, Bisbee, Sierra Vista, Benson, Willcox, Safford, San Carlos, Globe, Oracle, Oro Valley, Tucson, Green Valley, Nogales, Sells, Casa Grande, Ajo, Gila Bend, Phoenix, Yuma, Parker, and Dateland. The state is primarily served by Pinnacle West Capital (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company, and UNS Energy subsidiaries Unisource and Tucson Electric Power.
Las Vegas and Beatty in Nevada, where Berkshire Hathaway Energy unit NV Energy is the primary service provider, were also covered under the extreme heat warning watch.
Affected areas in California include Blythe, El Centro Imperial, Palm Springs, Twentynine Palms, Indio, Campo, Mount Laguna, Julian, Borrego Springs, Temecula, Hemet, Ontario, Chino, Riverside, Beaumont, Wrightwood, Victorville, San Bernandino, Barstow, Baker, Death Valley, Tehachapi, and Bishop. PG&E (PCG) subsidiary Pacific Gas and Electric, Edison International's (EIX) Southern California Edison, and Sempra Energy unit San Diego Gas & Electric are the major electricity service providers in these places.
A red flag warning was issued for Oregon's Burns, Ontario, Baker City, John Day, La Grande, Enterprise, primarily served by PacifiCorp unit Pacific Power.
In Washington, a red flag warning was raised for Forks, Port Angeles, Olympia, Centralia, Toledo, Randle, Omak, Coulee Dam, Republic, Winthrop, Wenatchee, Chelan, Colville, parts of Seattle and Tacoma. The state is primarily served by Puget Sound Energy, Pacific Power, and Avista (AVA) unit Avista Utilities.
