The annual growth rate of house prices in the UK accelerated to 1.6% in August, from the revised 1.4% in July, according to data from the Nationwide Building Society published Tuesday.
The consensus estimate for the month was a 2.1% increase in housing prices.
The average price of houses was 275,465 pounds sterling, down from 276,581 pounds a month ago.
On a monthly basis, seasonally adjusted house prices were 0.2% higher, against the revised 0.1% decline earlier and the expected 0.1% increase.
