The consensus estimate for the month was a 2.2% jump in housing prices.
The average price of houses was 278,880 pounds sterling, up from 277,186 pounds a month ago.
On a monthly basis, seasonally adjusted house prices were 0.4% higher, against the 0.9% gain earlier and the expected 0.3% decrease.
