India's consumer watchdog is looking into Apple's software warranty terms as part of an expedited probe into alleged damaged caused by the iOS 18 update to the functionality of iPhone devices, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing certain documents.

The damages reportedly burdened consumers with expensive repairs, according to the documents.

Apple reportedly told the regulator that the software update was free from systemic issues and a lack of warranties on such updates is the norm in the industry, Reuters said quoting a letter it had seen.

The regulator has informed the tech giant that it is accelerating a detailed investigation into the matter. Apple may be subjected to fines or mandated to provide refunds if found guilty.

Neither Apple, nor the Indian watchdog immediately responded to' request for a comment.
