Two Hong Kong-flagged supertankers, one loaded with Iraqi crude, have U-turned in the Strait of Hormuz and changed course amid heightened security risks, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing ship tracking data.
The crude-loaded Sea V reportedly came from the Persian Gulf and was headed to the strait on Tuesday, but decided to turn around and was idling in the middle of the strait on Wednesday. The Hestia vessel traveled toward the chokepoint from the Omani coast early Wednesday, but also sailed out.
The reasons for changing course were not immediately clear.has reached out to the UK Maritime Trade Operations to seek further information.
Despite threats, other ships are still attempting to transit the passageway, including the Hong Kong-flagged Erecter, which is bound to pick up cargo from Iraq, Bloomberg reported.
