The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production in Malaysia rose 9.2% year over year in June, according to data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia released on Tuesday.
The reading compared with a 7.8% increase recorded in the previous month, beating market expectations of 7.7% tracked by Trading Economics.
The year-over-year momentum was driven by a rise in all sectors, particularly the mining industry, which expanded 29.0%, and the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector, which jumped 9.1%.
The manufacturing sector increased by 7.2%, while the water supply and electricity and gas supply sectors went up by 12.7% and 10.2%, respectively.
On a month-over-month basis, the headline PPI rose 0.6% compared with a 1.1% expansion in the prior month.
