Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose 4.7% year over year in July, according to data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released on Wednesday.
The pace of growth was slower than the 6.5% increase recorded in the previous month. It missed the consensus forecast of 5.4% growth tracked by Investing.com.
The July increase was driven primarily by a 6.4% rise in the manufacturing sector and a 5.0% growth in electricity output, while mining output declined by 3.2%. Within manufacturing, output was supported by the 10.1% growth in the manufacture of basic metals and a 7.2% rise in the manufacture of food processing products.
