Malaysia's economy expanded 5.8% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, according to advance estimates released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia on Friday.
The headline reading compared with the 5.4% year-over-year growth recorded in the preceding quarter, coming in above the 5.3% Trading Economics forecast.
On a quarter-over-quarter basis, Malaysia's economy rose 1.7%, reversing the 4.4% decline registered in the first quarter of 2026.
The stronger growth was supported by expansions in the services, manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and construction sectors, while the agriculture sector contracted.
