New orders for US factory goods rose by 0.9% in July, larger than the expectations for a 0.7% increase in a survey compiled by Bloomberg and following a 0.2% decrease in June.
Excluding a 2.3% increase in transportation orders, new orders would have been up 0.6% after a 0.1% decline in June.
Durable goods new orders were unrevised at a 1.1% increase following a 0.6% gain in June.
Nondurable goods new orders rose by 0.7% after a 0.9% decrease in the previous month.
Factory shipments increased by 0.8%, while unfilled orders rose by 0.6%.
Factory inventories were up by 0.4% and, when combined with already-published advance estimates for retail and wholesale inventories, shows business inventories on pace for a 0.8% increase in the month.
