Japanese stocks extended losses Thursday, closing lower even as Treasury yields steadied and AI investment confidence improved.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed down 111.16 points, or 0.2%, at 64,214.48.
Oil prices declined as no further escalations followed recent U.S.-Iran strikes, though uncertainty over Strait of Hormuz transit kept tensions elevated.
On the corporate side, Japan-based technology group NEC (TYO:6701) earmarked 1.3 trillion yen for growth investments, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), under its medium-term plan through March 2031, media reports said. The company closed nearly 1% lower.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (TYO:9104) CEO Jotaro Tamura said supply disruption through the Strait of Hormuz is likely to extend beyond year‑end, Thursday reports showed. Shares closed 2% higher Thursday.
