Japan Supreme Court Dismisses Taisei's Final Appeal in Antitrust Case

By

Japan's Supreme Court dismissed Taisei's (TYO:1801) final appeal in a case that involved an alleged violation of the Antimonopoly Act related to construction projects for new terminal stations on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen line, according to a Wednesday filing with the Tokyo bourse.

Taisei and a former counsellor had been indicted by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office over construction projects using the open-cut excavation method for the new terminal stations of Shinagawa and Nagoya. Taisei had been insistent that there was no violation of the law and filed its final appeal in March 2023, the filing said.

The Supreme Court's ruling makes Taisei's 250 million yuan fine and the suspended sentence against its former counsellor final, it said.

Shares of the building construction company rose 2% in recent trade.
