Hong Kong booked a current account surplus of HK$96 billion, or 11.4% of gross domestic product, in the second quarter, according to data from the city's census and statistics department released Monday.
The figure was higher than the HK$36.4 billion in the first quarter and beating the forecast of HK$75.1 billion recorded by Trading Economics. The year-ago figure reached HK$93.1 billion, or 11.8% of GDP.
Hong Kong's goods deficit widened to HK$59.1 billion in the quarter from HK$38.3 billion a year earlier, while services logged a surplus of HK$38.5 billion, up from HK$30.9 billion a year earlier.
The balance of payments surplus was HK$54.6 billion, equivalent to 6.5% of GDP for the three-month period.
