Germany's calendar and seasonally adjusted trade surplus came in at 19.1 billion euros in May, up from the revised 14.7 billion euros a month ago, according to data from the country's Federal Statistical Office published Thursday.
Analysts expected a trade surplus of 14.9 billion euros for the month.
Exports edged up 0.9% month over month, compared with the revised 0.8% gain in May and the expected 0.3% decline. Monthly imports were 2.5% lower, against the revised 1.1% growth earlier and the market forecast of a 0.1% uptick.
