European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts started the week higher late Monday morning, advancing 0.61% to 1,903.57 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.
From continental Europe, the gainers were led by pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk (NVO) and telecommunications company Nokia (NOK), which rose 4.5% and 4.2% respectively. They were followed by internet browser company Opera (OPRA) and biopharmaceutical company DBV Technologies (DBVT), which were up 2.8% and 1.8% respectively.
The decliners from continental Europe were led by biopharmaceutical company Cellectis (CLLS) and pharmaceutical company Sanofi (SNY), which fell 5% and 2.8% respectively. They were followed by internet advertising firm Criteo (CRTO) and semiconductor company Sequans Communications (SQNS), which were down 2.6% and 2.4% respectively.
The gainers from the UK were led by pharmaceutical company Silence Therapeutics (SLN) and biopharmaceutical company Amarin (AMRN), which advanced 5.7% and 4.6% respectively. They were followed by lenders Lloyds Banking Group (LYG) and Barclays (BCS), which increased 4% and 3.8% respectively.
The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical company NuCana (NCNA) and mining company BHP Group (BHP), which lost 3.1% and 2% respectively. They were followed by telecommunications operator Vodafone Group (VOD) and medical device maker Smith & Nephew (SNN), which dropped 1.8% and 0.8% respectively.
