The Mortgage Bankers Association reported a 2.7% decline in mortgage applications in the week ended Sept. 4 after a 0.8% increase in the previous week. Refinancing activity and new home applications both fell as mortgage rates hit their highest point since June 2025.
Redbook reported that US same-store retail sales were up 8.3% year-over-year in the week ended Sept. 5, slower than a 9.6% gain in the prior week. Sales ahead of the Labor Day holiday were the key drivers.
