CME Group (CME) entered a long-term partnership with FutureSports to list futures and options on FutureSports Performance Indexes, an offering the companies said would be the world's first futures on sports indexes, the derivatives marketplace operator said Wednesday.
The first monthly and quarterly cash-settled futures contracts are expected to begin trading this summer, pending regulatory review, CME said.
The contracts will be based on FutureSports' rules-based indexes, which use officially reported, league-approved statistics to provide hedging and trading opportunities for institutional and individual investors, CME said.
FutureSports plans to announce partnerships with global professional sports leagues, whose team and athlete statistics will be used to create benchmark indexes for exchange-listed products, according to the statement.
