UK consumer confidence hit a 21-month high in July, bolstered by higher spending in the hospitality and leisure sector on the back of warmer summer weather and England's participation in the World Cup, according to data from Barclays released Tuesday.
Confidence in the strength of the country's economy reached 30% in July, up 6 percentage points on a monthly basis.
Meanwhile, consumer card spending rose 2% year over year following a 1.9% rise in June, with spending on both essentials and non-essentials increasing.
