Alphabet's Google Signs EU AI Content Transparency Code

By

Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google said Friday it is signing the EU AI Act Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content "to help support the responsible use of AI in Europe."

The company said the move builds on its 2025 signing of the General-Purpose AI Code of Practice and aligns with efforts to advance industry standards and tools like SynthID, its digital watermarking technology for identifying how content is created and edited.

Google said it is partnering with AI labs including Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), Eleven Labs, Kakao and OpenAI to drive adoption of cross-platform watermarking tools using SynthID.

"While we support transparency, we are concerned that adding more regulatory complexity -- as technical solutions are still evolving -- could contradict Europe's goals for competitiveness and simplification," Google said. "If online content is flooded with overlapping AI labels and legal disclosures, it becomes harder for people to get the clear context they need."
