Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google must face a UK class action lawsuit alleging abuse of dominance in mobile operating systems, app distribution, general search, and search advertising, the Competition Appeal Tribunal ruled Wednesday.
The tribunal certified the claim on an opt-out basis, meaning eligible UK businesses will be automatically included unless they choose to opt out.
The claim, brought by class representative Or Brook, alleges Google's conduct caused advertisers to pay more for search advertising and achieve lower returns on ad spend than in a competitive market, according to the ruling.
The tribunal said the class covers 880,000 businesses, with damages estimated at up to 5 billion pounds ($6.7 billion).
