Algoma Steel Group (ASTL.TO) suspended production at its electric arc furnace in Ontario following an unplanned outage at its Lake Superior power generating facility.
Algoma expects the disruption to last no more than 21 days, but the company is pursuing an alternative power supply arrangement that could enable a restart within about 10 days.
The suspension may impact Algoma's future shipment volumes but it remains capable of meeting committed customer delivery dates based on current inventory and order positions, the company said Monday.
Downstream finishing and shipping activities continue, Algoma said.
