Singapore Shares Track Regional Gains to End Higher as Oil Concerns Ease
Singapore shares closed higher on Monday, tracking regional gains, as investor confidence was boosted by easing oil concerns.The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 5,647.71 and 5,680.79 throughout the day. It ended the session at 5,675.23, up 19.12 points or 0.3% compared to Friday's close.In economic news, Singapore's unemployment rate fell to 1.9% in the second quarter of 2026 from the previous quarter, falling from the government's preliminary estimate of 2.0%, according to final data released by the Ministry of Manpower.On the corporate front, shares of MindChamps PreSchool (SGX:CNE) were up nearly 4% at the close as it named Kelvin Chow Chung Yip as its chief investment and investor relations officer.Yangzijiang Maritime Development (SGX:8YZ) was up nearly 3% as it ordered 24 newbuild vessels from Chinese shipyards, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2030.Meanwhile, Precision engineering company InnoTek (SGX:M14) closed over 1% higher as its subsidiary, Mansfield Manufacturing outlined plans to transfer its equity interests in five units to InnoTek Holding (S), a newly incorporated unit in Singapore.
