Norway's Energy Ministry on Friday said it has secured applications from 21 oil and gas companies, including energy majors like Shell (SHEL) and TotalEnergies (TTE), for the 2026 licensing round for new production licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.The awards in predefined areas, or APA, are Norway's annual licensing round for awarding new production licenses in unlicensed exploration areas on the Norwegian continental shelf.APA 2026 was unveiled on May 5, and 21 companies applied for new production licenses by the Sep. 1 deadline, the Ministry said in a statement.The Ministry did not disclose the total number of applications for competitive reasons."The APA area is being expanded as geological knowledge in areas on the Norwegian shelf increases. Angola's national agency for oil, gas and biofuels has announced that together with partners Exxon Mobil Angola (XOM) and others working on development in its Block 15, they had found a hydrocarbons in the Vicango Este-01 exploratory well, it said in a statement.Sited about 370 kilometers offshore to the northeast, the well was drilled to a depth of 940 meters by the Valaris DS-9 platform. It found an area about 25 meters deep containing hydrocarbons, marking the 20th such discovery in the block in the last three decades. Shell (SHEL) and Equinor's (EQNR) Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea is expected to receive UK government approval for new drilling this month, news outlets reported Friday.Approval for the project, off the coast of Aberdeen, may come as soon as mid-September, just before Parliament breaks for party conferences, the BBC reported, citing government and industry sources.Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh is expected to approve Jackdaw with a decision on Rosebank, a separate oilfield, anticipated later, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter"We do not comment on speculation," a spokesperson from the government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said in an emailed statement to.
