The US dollar weakened against its Canadian counterpart Tuesday afternoon even as Ottawa unveiled a range of new tariffs of up to 50% on selected American imports, and China criticized the Trump administration of new economic sanctions against Iran and its trading partners.
The US dollar was down 0.07% to C$1.3835, on last look.
Both West Texas Intermediate and Brent crude oil prices continued to fall Tuesday afternoon as the US pivot to economic sanctions eased fears of the military conflict in the Middle East continuing. WTI October crude oil futures, the US benchmark, fell 3.2% to $82.32 per barrel. October Brent oil futures, the international benchmark, fell 4% to $88.49 per barrel.
Comex gold edged up 0.04% to $4,699.70.
