The US dollar weakened against the Canadian currency Thursday afternoon while oil and gold prices rose as progress on ending the Iran war appear stalled.
Both Pakistan and China pushed back against US sanctions on Iran, raising questions about how successful the trade restrictions could be in toppling the regime.
The US dollar fell 0.1% to C$1.3858 on last look.
West Texas Intermediate October crude oil futures, the US benchmark, rose 0.6% to $82.69 per barrel. October Brent oil futures, the international benchmark, rose 1.2% to $88.88 per barrel.
Comex gold futures for December delivery edged up 0.2% to C$4,662.50 per ounce.
