The US dollar strengthened against its Canadian counterpart Wednesday afternoon, as oil prices edged down despite attacks against ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
The US dollar climbed 0.15% to C$1.3945 on last look.
West Texas Intermediate September futures fell 0.32% to $82.93 per barrel, while Brent crude futures for October delivery dropped 0.24% to $88.72 per barrel.
Comex gold for December delivery rose 0.5% to $4,463.50 per ounce.
The US consumer price index increased 0.1% on a seasonally adjusted basis in July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported earlier today, matching expectations, according to Marketwatch. Core CPI, excluding food and energy rose at a 0.2% monthly pace, up from unchanged in June and again matching forecasts,
