The US dollar strengthened marginally against the Canadian currency Thursday afternoon after Iranian state news published a draft plan with "restrictive" conditions for ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg and CNBC reported.
According to the two news outlets, the draft plan denies US and Israeli ships from using the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump has reportedly rejected the deal.
The US dollar edged up 0.01% to C$1.4014 on last look.
West Texas Intermediate September futures jumped 2.7% to $77.22 per barrel, while Brent crude futures for October delivery rose 3.6% to $82.29 per barrel.
US gold futures for December edged up 0.03% to $4,306.70 per ounce.
