Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday as investor sentiment improved following reports that the U.S. and China are discussing tariff reductions.
The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, climbed 0.7% to 3,891.60. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 1.3% to 13,454.74.
Markets were supported by reports that the U.S. and China are in talks to cut tariffs on certain goods ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the White House next week.
The proposed deal would lower duties on US agricultural and energy exports in exchange for favorable rates on Chinese manufacturing inputs.
