The preliminary estimate for the Bureau of Labor Statistics' benchmark revision to nonfarm payrolls released on Friday showed a downward adjustment of 79,000 for overall payrolls and a downward adjustment of 178,000 for private payrolls.
The revisions are roughly 0.1% of total payrolls, compared with an average 0.2% of total employment over the last 10 years, BLS noted.
The final revision will be incorporated into January employment data to be released in early February.
