The combined count of crude oil, natural gas, and miscellaneous rigs in the US rose by seven to 580 in the week ending July 2, according to data from Baker Hughes (BKR) released Thursday.
The US oil rig count rose by five from 440 the previous week to 445, while the number of gas rigs increased by one from 125 the previous week to 126, the data showed.
The number of miscellaneous rigs in the US also rose by one from eight the previous week to nine in the week ending July 2. The US had 425 oil, 108 gas, and six miscellaneous rigs in operation a year earlier.
The consolidated North American oil and gas rig count, a key early indicator of future production levels, remained unchanged at 770 from last week.
