The Nasdaq rose 0.5% to 27,244.28, recording a new closing high for the second day in a row. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.4% to 51,863.69, while the S&P 500 ended little changed at 7,764.64. Among sectors, materials paced the gainers, while financials led the laggards.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down 2.7% at $89.84 a barrel in Tuesday late-afternoon trade. Brent dropped 2% to $98.35. Both benchmarks were on track for their fifth consecutive day of declines.
Trump said that members of his administration had "a very good meeting" with an Iranian delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, multiple news outlets reported. The talks lasted three hours.

Spot gold edged up 0.4% to $4,361.38 per troy ounce, while silver jumped 2% to $67.76 per ounce.
