Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) and Toyota Motor (TM) were among manufacturers whose operations were disrupted after a powerful earthquake struck Japan's Kumamoto prefecture, Nikkei Asia reported Wednesday.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing evacuated personnel from its JASM semiconductor plant in Kumamoto after the quake triggered mandatory evacuation procedures, while some construction work at JASM's second fab was temporarily suspended as a precaution, a company spokesperson told Nikkei Asia.

Toyota will halt production at three plants in Fukuoka prefecture from Wednesday evening through Friday while it assesses safety, logistics and supplier conditions, the report said, citing the automaker.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing toldthat JASM structures are safe following structural inspections and it is now inspecting equipment and doing recovery works. The company also said it is still assessing the earthquake's impact.

Toyota Motor did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
