(Updates to add comment from ANA)
Japan's two largest airlines, ANA (TYO:9202) and JAL (TYO:9201), will impose record fuel surcharges on international routes for July and August, Nikkei Asia reported on Wednesday, citing industry executives.
Both carriers will apply a 65,000-yen surcharge on flights to Europe, more than double the amount charged in April, while surcharges on Hawaii-bound flights will nearly double to 40,400 yen, according to the report.
The record surcharges reflect higher Singapore kerosene prices and a weaker yen during the April-May reference period, the report said.
In response to a request for comment, ANA said the recent adjustments reflect current high fuel prices, with government subsidies helping to mitigate the overall increase.
JAL didn't immediately reply to MT Newswire's request for comment.
