Uber Technologies (UBER) is laying off roughly 10% of its workforce as part of a restructuring effort to simplify team structures, remove management layers and reduce roles primarily focused on coordination, Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi said in an email to employees Wednesday.
"I realize this is a lot of change, but we decided it was better to make one big shift rather than multiple small ones," Khosrowshahi wrote.
The layoffs include reducing roles that are focused on coordination, and clarifying the responsibilities of coordination roles that remain.
Shares of Uber were up 2% pre-bell.
